About the RoleWe are seeking an Allied Health Assistant to join our outpatient dietetic team.This is a handson, peoplefocused role. You will support patients by providing practical nutritionrelated screening, education and interventions, both in person and over the phone.
You will be working under the delegation of dietitians in outpatient services, primarily Renal and Oncology, but you may be expected to support across other areas of the dietetic service including inpatient and community services.Your role will also include clinical administrative tasks to support the dietitians in keeping the service running smoothly.
This includes preparing resources, managing stock and feeding supplies, coordinating appointments, and supporting daytoday administrative tasks.Clear communication is essential in this role, you will need to confidently receive tasks, ask questions when needed, and provide timely feedback to the dietitians you work with.This role is wellsuited to someone who enjoys working with people, is organised, and is eager to learn.
You will receive training, supervision, and ongoing support to help you develop your skills and work safely within your scope. You do not require a clinical background. Key responsibilitiesBuild positive working relationships with patients, whānau, and members of the multidisciplinary team to support our patients while under the care of Health NZ Waikato dietetic services.Provide direct patient care under the delegation and direction of registered dietitians in the outpatient setting.Communicate clearly and promptly with supervising dietitians to ensure delegated tasks are understood and completed.Assist with administrative and operational tasks, this may include appointment coordination, triage support, resource preparation, and maintaining accurate documentation.Contribute to quality improvement activities that support the dietetic service.Participate in ongoing training and supervision to maintain safe and effective practice.

About the Team/ServiceOur dietetic team sits within Allied Health and includes approximately 30 dietitians and four dietitian assistants working across acute, community, outpatient and renal services.Our Waikato dietetic service covers a large geographical area; we provide care at Waikato Hospital, a large tertiary teaching hospital, as well in our smaller rural hospitals: Tokoroa, Taumarunui, Te Kuiti and Thames Hospitals.We are committed to providing equitable care and improving health outcomes for our diverse population.

Allied Health staff work in partnership with individuals and their family/whānau to facilitate relationships and a smooth journey through the healthcare system.
