Senior Civil + Environmental Engineer

This role leads the delivery of high-quality civil and environmental engineering solutions across land development and infrastructure projects, with a particular focus on stormwater, environmental outcomes, and modelling. Studio Wainui has an extensive workload across both the private and public sectors, and this is an opportunity to step into a senior role with real scope—leading quality projects, influencing technical direction, and helping grow an integrated civil and environmental offering.

You will provide technical leadership, guide project teams, and build strong, trusted relationships with clients, councils, and collaborators. You’ll be working with a supportive team, a solid pipeline of work, and clients who value practical thinking and strong relationships.

This position plays a key role in growing Studio Wainui’s capability in integrated civil and environmental design—supporting better outcomes for people, communities, and the environment.

Skills & Personal Attributes
  • Strong civil and environmental engineering capability with a practical mindset
  • Experience with stormwater modelling (e.g. InfoWorks, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, or similar)
  • Clear communicator—able to explain technical matters in plain language
  • Confident using Autodesk Civil 3D for design and documentation
  • Able to build trust with clients, councils, and team members
  • Sound judgement and ability to make balanced decisions
  • Organised and able to manage multiple projects
  • Collaborative and willing to support others
Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Typically 8+ years’ experience in land development, infrastructure, or environmental engineering
  • Strong experience in stormwater design and modelling
  • Good understanding of NZ standards, guidelines, and consenting processes
  • CPEng (or working towards it) preferred
