Cook
We are looking for a cook to join our team, as we prepare for the Summer season.
About Us
St Georges is one of Hawke’s Bay’s most respected dining destinations, known for refined but approachable cuisine. Our kitchen is powered by sustainability: we grow a wide variety of organic produce in our extensive onsite gardens, which directly shapes our seasonal menus.
We believe great food begins with great ingredients, and we’re looking for a passionate Cook to join our team — someone who values consistency, creativity, and the joy of hospitality as much as we do.
The Role
As a Cook, you’ll be hands-on with prep and service across multiple kitchen sections. You’ll ensure our dishes maintain high quality, made with the best local ingredients and care.
Your responsibilities include:
- Preparing, seasoning, and cooking food across sections.
- Washing, cutting, and preparing ingredients including meats, seafood, vegetables, and fruit.
- Portioning, garnishing, and plating dishes for service.
- Monitoring food quality and freshness.
- Operating and cleaning kitchen equipment (ovens, mixers, fryers, etc.).
- Storing food safely and maintaining optimal stock rotation.
- Maintaining kitchen cleanliness, hygiene, and food safety standards.
- Assisting chefs with menu preparation, specials, and stock control when needed.
- Minimum two years’ relevant work experience as a Cook in a commercial kitchen.
- Strong knowledge of food hygiene and safe kitchen practices.
- Reliable, organised, and able to thrive under pressure.
- A team player with good communication skills.
$25 – $28/hr (depending on experience), plus tips.
Permanent, full-time position with a guaranteed minimum of 30 hours per week.
- Discounts when dining at St Georges.
- A supportive, professional kitchen culture.
- Opportunities to grow your skills and contribute to menu innovation.
