About TE Group

TE Group is a fast-growing, innovative structural steel company delivering high-quality fabrication, installation, and turnkey solutions across commercial and industrial projects throughout New Zealand. With multiple active sites and a reputation for dependable delivery, we’re expanding our commercial team and looking for a skilled Quantity Surveyor / Estimator with strong structural steel experience.

About the Role

This is a key position within TE Group, responsible for accurate cost estimation, tendering, procurement support, and commercial oversight across our structural steel projects. You will work closely with our project managers, workshop teams, and site leadership to ensure pricing accuracy, contract compliance, and excellent commercial outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare detailed structural steel estimates, tenders, and quotations (shop drawings, supply, fabricate, paint, install).
  • Interpret engineering drawings, connection details, design changes, and RFI responses to produce accurate quantities and pricing.
  • Work with our internal drafting, workshop, and site teams to ensure buildability and planning considerations are incorporated into pricing.
  • Assist in procurement, subcontractor pricing, materials sourcing, and supplier engagement.
  • Manage and track variations, provisional sums, and cost adjustments throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support monthly claim preparation in line with NZ Construction Contracts Act requirements.
  • Conduct site measures, review workshop documentation, and verify installed works when required.
  • Work collaboratively with PMs to forecast project costs, margins, and commercial risks.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, main contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
What You’ll Bring
  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Estimator in structural steel or fabrication.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret structural & architectural drawings, connection details, steel schedules, and fabrication documents.
  • Solid understanding of fabrication processes, welding, coatings, installation sequencing, and typical structural steel methodologies.
  • Knowledge of NZS 3910, NZS 5131, and general construction contract frameworks is an advantage.
  • Proficient with estimating software, Excel, and reading 3D models (Tekla/Trimble Connect familiarity beneficial).
  • Strong commercial acumen and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills — able to work with clients, workshop teams, and site teams effectively.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-moving environment with multiple active projects and tight deadlines.
Why Join TE Group?
  • Work with a driven leadership team committed to innovation, quality, and growth.
  • Exposure to major commercial projects across Auckland and the wider region.
  • Opportunity to shape and improve our commercial systems and help build a high-performing QS/estimating function.
  • Competitive salary + phone + laptop + career progression opportunities.
  • Supportive, down-to-earth team culture where your input genuinely matters
