**The opportunity**
We have a permanent full-time position for a Treatment Plant Operator in our Wastewater Treatment Team based at Bell Island near Nelson. Depending on your skill level and experience, this role could be at Operator or Senior Operator level.
We enjoy a close working partnership, within a collaborative contract structure with our client. Within our dynamic team environment, our primary focus is continual site process improvements and optimisation, health and safety and maintenance efficiencies.
You’ll work autonomously and as part of an experienced team of plant operators, lab technician and site engineers, alongside our diverse crew of subcontractors including electricians, automation technicians and other specialist services that support our day-to-day activities and projects.
As a Treatment Plant Operator, you’ll primarily be involved with monitoring and adjusting treatment processes, making decisions as part of a collaborative operations team to ensure the treatment plant operates smoothly.
You will also be responsible for pump station operation and maintenance along with responding to after-hours alarms and callouts as part of the on-call roster.
There will be a need to take samples for analysis, complete reports, logs and upkeep accurate databases. You’ll enjoy problem solving treatment and mechanical issues and be keen to get stuck into developing new initiatives to ensure continual improvements.
There is potentially an opportunity to be involved in supervising, developing and upskilling staff if you have previous leadership experience.
We are based a short distance out of Nelson on a scenic island; we are the only site in New Zealand operating Aerobic Digestion (ATAD) and have one of the largest pond networks in the country at 50ha.

**About you:**
The successful applicant will ideally have the following skills, and attributes:- Qualified or currently studying towards a water industry qualification ie NZ Certificate or Diploma in Wastewater. Ongoing training will be provided and supported.
- 2 years of proven experience operating wastewater treatment processes
- Excellent attention to detail and sound organisation skills
- Strong commitment to customer service.
- Ability to work autonomously while also being a strong team player
- Out of the box thinking and a positive can-do approach to problem solving
- Proficient in using technology-based systems, apps and in-field data tools as part of day to day operations
