About the Role

This is a 12-month fixed-term role dedicated to enhancing visibility and responsiveness across all communications and engagement activities. It plays a critical part in building trust by creating clear connections between who we are as an organisation, the services we deliver, and the priorities and aspirations our communities want us to understand and act on.

As the Communications and Engagement Team Leader, you will:
  • Lead and inspire the communications and engagement team, supporting them to deliver communications and engagement aligned with our overall strategy.
  • Champion engagement best practice, creating opportunities for participation through digital platforms, public forums, and innovative engagement tools.
  • Develop and implement integrated communication and engagement strategies that strengthen relationships with our diverse communities and stakeholders.
  • Coach and mentor teams across the business to build their communications and engagement capability.
  • Drive innovation, keep up with industry trends and embed best practice communications and engagement into projects, policies, and service delivery.
  • Monitor and evaluate outcomes, using insights to continuously improve how we connect with our communities.
You’ll bring:
  • Proven experience leading a strategic communications and engagement team in a complex organisation.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills and cultural competency, particularly in working with iwi and diverse communities.
  • Strategic thinking and creativity to design engagement approaches that are inclusive and effective.
  • A positive attitude, optimism, and a strong work ethic.
  • Comfort in an environment that embraces Te Ao Maaori and knowledge (or willingness to learn) of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Te Ture Whaimana.

Why Join Our Team?

We're a flexible working organisation - yes this means you can work from home, but it's also so much more than that, we encourage our people to work in ways that provide the best outcomes rather than measuring success by time spent at a desk.
