About the Role

You will work alongside other psychiatrists to provide clinical care of the patients in the ward, both directly and through supervising other staff, particularly the junior medical staff. Consultant Psychiatrist input is essential in a range of clinical activities, including 24-hour seclusion reviews, periodic reviews of treatment, statutory assessments under the Mental Health (Compulsory Assessment and Treatment) Act 1992 and decisions about leave and discharge.

The Mental Health Service has a robust Peer Review Group and you will have access to CPD activities to meet ongoing registration requirements.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Nga Rau Rakau is the acute admission facility for seriously mentally ill people in the Hawkes Bay region.

Our team consists of staff from a wide variety of backgrounds who are skilled in supporting people who live with severe mental illnesses and their whanau.

About you

You will be vocationally registered in Psychiatry with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) or hold equivalent qualification and be able to qualify for vocational registration with MCNZ.

You will be someone who is able to provide clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team, with a commitment to continuous quality improvement.
