About the Role

As a Registered Clinical/Health Psychologist, you will provide effective and efficient psychological assessment and treatment to individuals who have renal impairment and their whanau/families in Northland who experience psychological or emotional issues related to their condition, with the aim of assisting them to achieve optimum functioning and well-being.

The successful candidate will also participate as an effective member of the multi-disciplinary team providing assessment, treatment, consultation and liaison with other services.

In this position, you will deliver a proficient and streamlined psychological evaluation and therapy to individuals facing challenges that hinder their capacity to attain optimal functioning and well-being within the Renal Service. This position offers the successful applicant a rewarding opportunity to work with a diverse patient/whanau group and multidisciplinary team, across all Renal sub-specialty practices.

We provide a regional service which covers from Cape Reinga to Te Hana. The majority of the patients we care for are Maori - this provides a unique opportunity to understand indigenous cultural factors and how these enhance psychological needs and wellbeing.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The Renal Service approaches patient care from a multi-disciplinary perspective whereby each role collaborates to provide comprehensive care for patients with kidney disease. This position is primarily based in Whangarei and offers the opportunity to work at our other district hospitals and our community based Peritoneal Dialysis Service.

The Team includes 7 Renal Physicians, a Renal Pharmacist, Dietitians, Social Workers, Registered Nurses, Clinical Nurse Specialists/Educators, Managers, Administration staff and Health Care Assistants.

There are 4 Haemodialysis Units - 2 based at Whangarei Hospital and 2 satellite Haemodialysis Units based at Bay of Islands and Kaitaia Hospital. As a team we are wholeheartedly dedicated to providing the best possible service we can for the patients/whanau who are trying to cope with an often-challenging life.

About you

To thrive in this role, you must possess excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, as well as the capability to collaborate effectively within a team and fulfil duties at peripheral clinics when necessary.

Registered with the New Zealand Psychologists Board (NZPB) with a current practicing certificate
Four years or more as a registered psychologist is desired.
Comprehensive psychological assessment and treatment skills
Clinical experience with working with individuals with chronic health conditions

Proficient in evidence-based practice
