Moana New Zealand is leading the way in oyster farming, having implemented ground-breaking technology and farming techniques over the last five years that is transforming the way we farm and harvest oysters, to create a superior oyster, that will outperform all others.
Reporting to the Farm & Site Manager, this permanent, full-time role is integral to the seamless coordination and completion of day-to-day tasks across the Oyster Shore operations.
The focus of the role will be to oversee on a daily basis the Shore Worker Team, coordinating and allocating tasks, ensuring a safe work environment and that all tasks and duties carried out on the shore and grading area are completed on time, and to the required standard.
Key focus areas:- Oversee, coordinate and undertake shore and yard duties as directed by the Farm & Site Manager including:
- Assist the Whangaroa Managers in the completion of daily planned activities to meet operational objectives.
- Contribute to efficiently and cost effectively meeting production requirements, and health & safety, regulatory and quality requirements.
- Actively participate in the day to day running of the tio (oyster) grading machine
- Monitor & remove mortality, bag tio (oysters) once graded
- Apply correct tio (oysters) handling techniques, and monitor and track tio (oysters) welfare, to ensure working within required timeframes and deadlines
- Ensure the shore crew are seeding the baskets to the correct stocking density as specified.
- Maintain knowledge and understanding of the demands of the tide/weather conditions. Ensure work planned is arranged to prevent minimal downtime in conjunction with the Farm & Site Manager.
You will have a natural way with people, be hardworking, reliable and keen to make your mark in a role.
You must be able to take direction, and work within a strong team-based culture where you can play an important part in growing a team.You will be an effective communicator, with the ability to relate to a diverse range of people, building credibility and respect quickly.
Key Skills:- Ideally you will have oyster industry experience or worked within a manufacturing, processing environment
- Valid Forklift Licence
- Lead by example, doing the mahi and encouraging others to deliver results
- Can do attitude, thinks outside the box and is a problem solver
- Physically fit and enjoy the outdoors
- Class 2 or 4 (full and Clean NZ Driver’s Licence)- would be advantageous but is not essential
