About the Role
As a Telephonist at Rotorua Hospital, you are the heartbeat of our communications. Working as a casual across a rotating roster, you will manage a high volume of incoming and outgoing calls, operate our hospital paging systems, and provide a calm and professional service to patients, visitors, clinical staff, and the wider community.This is a role where your reliability, focus, and communication skills directly support patient care every single day.

Our small and close-knit Telephonist team sits within the Emergency and Medical Management service at Rotorua Hospital. Hours and Availability Please Read Carefully
Our telephonist team operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and we need our team to reflect that.
You must be available to work across a rotating roster that includes:
- Day, evening, and night shifts on a rotating basis
- Weekends and public holidays as part of your regular roster/Occasional short-notice shift cover when required/Your rostered hours will be agreed with the Team Leader and will rotate across shift types on a fair and consistent basis.
Please note: Availability across all shift types is a genuine requirement of this role, not optional. If you have restrictions that prevent you from working nights, weekends or public holidays on a regular basis, please discuss this with us before applying so we can assess whether the role is the right fit.
About You
You are a confident communicator who takes pride in doing a job well. You understand the importance of consistency, reliability, and working as part of a 24/7 team. To be considered for this role you will need:
- Excellent telephone manner and communication skills clear, professional, and friendly
- Ability to stay calm and focused in a busy, fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when managing calls and messages
- Computer literacy and confidence learning new systems
- Willingness and ability to work a rotating roster including evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays
- Previous experience in a telephonist, receptionist, or customer service role is an advantage but not essential we will train the right person
