Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic

McLeod Cranes, Hiabs and Transport is a well-established family business with 30 years of experience operating across the Bay of Plenty, Waikato, and central North Island. We're looking for a qualified Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic to join our Taupo workshop.

About the Role

This is a full-time (50 hour) position offering varied and challenging work on a diverse fleet including trucks, hiabs, cranes, and other heavy machinery. If you're a skilled mechanic who enjoys working on different types of equipment, this role is for you!

Key Responsibilities:
  • Diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, and mechanical systems
  • Fault finding on electrical and mechanical issues
  • Perform scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance on trucks, hiabs, cranes and other machinery as required
  • Conduct WOF and COF inspections
  • Service and repair hydraulic systems on hiabs and cranes
  • Respond to on-site callouts when required
  • Maintain accurate service records and documentation
  • Ensure all work meets safety standards and manufacturer specifications
  • Work with the maintenance and logistics teams to ensure minimal disruption to fleet availability

Essential Requirements:
  • Qualified Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic
  • Proven experience working on trucks and heavy machinery
  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Commitment to health and safety
  • Good organisational and time management skills
Desirable Skills:
  • Experience with cranes and hiab equipment
  • Hydraulics knowledge and experience
  • Auto electrical skills
  • Welding and fabrication skills
  • Valid class 5 driver's license
