ABOUT TJ KATSU

TJ Katsu is a well-established Japanese food business known for fresh sushi, katsu, teriyaki, curry, noodles and other Japanese-inspired meals. Since opening in 2011, TJ Katsu has built a strong reputation for quality food, generous portions, efficient service and convenient locations.

As the business continues to grow, including expansion into the Auckland market, we are seeking an experienced and commercially focused Sales and Marketing Manager to lead our sales and marketing strategy, strengthen our brand presence, increase customer engagement, and support business growth across existing and new markets.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Sales and Marketing Manager will be based at TJ Katsu's Wellington head office and will be required to travel frequently to Auckland to support the company's expansion into that market.

The role will be responsible for planning, developing and implementing sales and marketing strategies for TJ Katsu. This includes strengthening TJ Katsu's established Wellington presence while supporting the launch, development and growth of the business in Auckland.

The successful candidate will work closely with the business owners, store managers and operational staff to ensure that marketing activities are commercially effective, brand-consistent and aligned with customer demand in both established and emerging markets.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  1. Developing and implementing sales and marketing plans to increase revenue, customer traffic and brand awareness across all TJ Katsu locations, including coordinating with store managers to ensure campaigns are properly implemented at store level.
  2. Supporting TJ Katsu's expansion into Auckland by identifying market opportunities, customer segments and local business development prospects, and travelling frequently to Auckland to assist with market research, promotional activities, customer engagement and local partnerships.
  3. Analysing customer trends, local competition, pricing, product performance, sales data and campaign return on investment in both Wellington and Auckland, and preparing reports on outcomes and customer response.
  4. Planning and managing promotional campaigns across dine-in, takeaway, online ordering, catering and delivery channels, including seasonal promotions, special offers and product launch strategies.
  5. Managing TJ Katsu's brand presentation and digital marketing activities across social media, website, in-store materials, menu promotions and customer communications, and developing initiatives to promote key products such as sushi, katsu meals, teriyaki, curry, noodles and poke bowls.
  6. Building relationships with corporate clients, local businesses, schools, event organisers, tourism operators and delivery partners to increase group orders, catering opportunities and recurring sales.
  7. Reviewing customer feedback and recommending improvements to product presentation, customer service and overall customer experience, and supporting the development of loyalty initiatives and customer retention strategies.
  8. Preparing and managing marketing budgets, monitoring expenditure and ensuring all marketing activity remains commercially effective and cost-efficient.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

The ideal candidate will have:

  1. Relevant experience in sales, marketing, business development or brand management, preferably within hospitality, food service, retail or a similar customer-facing industry.
  2. A relevant qualification in marketing, business, management, commerce or communications is preferred.
  3. Strong commercial judgment and proven ability to develop practical marketing strategies that lead to measurable sales growth, supported by experience in digital marketing, social media, promotions and campaign management.
  4. Strong analytical, communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills, with the ability to interpret sales data, customer trends and campaign performance.
  5. Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects across different business locations in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
  6. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with owners, managers and frontline staff.
  7. Willingness and ability to travel frequently between Wellington and Auckland; knowledge of either market's hospitality, takeaway, food retail or corporate catering sector would be an advantage.
