2 x Indian cuisine cooks
We are seeking 2 experienced and passionate Cooks to join our team in a dynamic role that combines restaurant service with mobile food operations. The successful candidates will work some days in our restaurant kitchen and other days operating from our food truck, which functions both as a fully equipped mobile restaurant kitchen and a demonstrative cooking space.
When based in the food truck, the Cooks will be responsible for preparing and serving high-quality Indian cuisine while also leading live cooking demonstrations that engage and educate customers. The food truck regularly attends festivals and public events and may also be booked for private functions or one-off group cooking demonstration classes.This role requires strong culinary skills, confidence working in front of an audience, and the ability to showcase Indian cuisine in an informative and engaging way.
You will be guaranteed a minimum of 30 hours and maximum of 50 hours work per week rostered over 6 days, including weekends, evenings and public holidays. These roles pay $26 to $30 per hour depending on skills and experience
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Inspecting ingredients and food supplies to ensure they meet freshness and quality standards
- Setting and monitoring the appropriate heat levels for stoves, ovens, and grills
- Preparing and cooking a variety of Indian dishes, from classic curries to tandoori items and regional specialties
- Adding spices and seasonings throughout the cooking process to enhance flavour
- Assembling and plating dishes with attention to presentation, including sauces, gravies, and garnishes
- Safely storing ingredients and prepared food in temperature-controlled environments
- Catering to dietary needs such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or allergen-specific meals
- Assisting with planning menus and estimating ingredient quantities when requested by Chefs
- Helping mentor junior kitchen staff and apprentices as part of a collaborative kitchen environment
What We’re Looking For:
Previous experience in a professional kitchen, ideally with a focus on Indian cuisineStrong knowledge of traditional Indian ingredients, techniques, and flavor profiles
Good understanding of kitchen hygiene and food safety standards
Ability to work efficiently under pressure and as part of a team
Availability to work flexible shifts, including evenings and weekends
To be suitable for this role you must:
- have a thorough knowledge of Indian spices, cuisine and cooking techniques, and
- have a minimum of 3 years relevant commercial kitchen experience in a restaurant environment including cooking, using the equipment involved, and
- reasonable level of fitness and mobility, and
- proven ability to work under pressure, and
- attention to detail, and
- be professional and presentable at all times, and
- ability to work in a small team with people from a range of different cultures and backgrounds, and
- excellent time management and organisation.
