Health New Zealand, Canterbury is seeking expressions of interest from Senior Medical Officers currently working within the Older Persons Mental Health service for the key leadership role of Clinical Director.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the OPMH leadership team, working within a dedicated multidisciplinary team and helping to shape the future of specialist mental health care for our older adult population. Based at primarily at Burwood Hospital, this role is suited to a passionate and experienced SMO who is committed to clinical excellence, service development, and fostering a supportive, collaborative team environment.

About the Role

As Clinical Director, you will:

• Provide clinical leadership and oversight to ensure high-quality, person-centred care across the Older Persons Mental Health service.
• Work closely with the OPMH Leadership team, including Nurse Consultant and Service Manager.
• Work closely with the OPH R Chief of Service, General Manager, nursing allied health leadership, and other clinical teams to support service delivery and continuous improvement.
• Support workforce development and clinical governance, including supervision, mentorship, and professional development of medical staff.
• Represent the service at a local and regional level, contributing to planning and innovation aligned with Health New Zealand - s strategic direction.

About You

We are looking for an SMO who:

• Is currently working within the Older Persons Mental Health service at Health New Zealand - Waitaha Canterbury.
• Demonstrates strong leadership skills, clinical credibility, and a collaborative approach.
• Has a passion for improving outcomes for tangata whaiora and their whanau.
• Is committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equity in mental health care.
• Has a proven ability to lead and support teams through change and complexity.

Term

This is a part-time 0.2 FTE Clinical Director appointment (to be negotiated alongside clinical FTE). The initial term will be for 3 years, with the option for extension.
