Psychiatrist - Adult Inpatientat Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Taranaki -
This role will work with a dedicated multi-disciplinary team of junior doctors, nurses, allied health and mental health assistants caring for our most vulnerable people experiencing acute mental illness. Based in New Plymouth, Te Puna Waiora our inpatient unit is a 23-bed general adult, (12 beds), psychogeriatric (4 beds) and intensive psychiatric care (7 beds) unit.
We admit from across the Taranaki area via our community mental health teams or our acute assessment teams (MH Assessment & Brief Care Team or Co-Response Team). The medical staff of the unit consists of 2 Consultants, 2 Psychiatric Registrars and 2 House Officers.
The Ward is managed by a Clinical Nurse Manager with a senior nursing team comprising Associate Clinical Nurse Manager, Clinical Nurse Coordinators afterhours, a Clinical Nurse Specialist and a Clinical Nurse Educator. The ward has a dedicated Occupational Therapist, Social Worker, a full-time activities coordinator and 2 administration staff.
We also have Pou Hapai who provide Te Ao Maori cultural support for whaiora in the ward. Psychology interventions are provided from the community team.This role is one of many Consultant Psychiatrists within the wider MH&A Service in Taranaki, a group which meets weekly for clinical, educational, business and governance purposes all while providing support to each other and building strong collegial relationships.
