About the Role

We’re partnering with a well-established industrial power services provider to find an experienced Power Systems Technician. This role is critical in delivering high-voltage testing, commissioning, and maintenance services across essential industrial and infrastructure sites — including manufacturing plants, substations, and energy facilities.

You’ll work hands-on with cutting-edge HV systems, protection relays, rotating machinery, and control equipment to help keep New Zealand’s power infrastructure safe, efficient, and reliable.

Key Responsibilities
  • Test and maintain HV equipment (transformers, protection relays, instrument transformers, HV cables up to 33kV)
  • EWRB registration is essential to be considered for this role.
  • Commission and service power system communication and control gear
  • Perform insulating oil analysis and breakdown testing
  • Lead or support HV system commissioning projects
  • Joint and terminate specialist communication cables
  • Apply and remove safety measures in line with industry protocols
  • Respond to unplanned outages and carry out scheduled maintenance
  • Contribute to a strong safety culture and adhere to all procedures
About You
Qualifications & Experience
  • Diploma or tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems
  • Practical experience in substations, switchyards, or industrial HV environments
  • Strong understanding of electrical protection systems
  • Proficient with HV testing equipment and interpreting test data
  • Safety-conscious with a proactive, team-focused approach
  • Willingness to travel for regional projects
