Domestic Cleaner - Weekend

Selwyn College/ Te Maru Pumanawa is looking for a Domestic cleaner to assist with the

effective and efficient provision of a collegiate experience for residents of Te Maru Pumanawa

and the wider associated community. Core to achieving this experience is our domestic team, who ensure our young people are residing in clean facilities.

About us and the role: Selwyn College is an Anglican owned accommodation provider for primarily first year university

students at Otago University. We actively encourage an inclusive, academic residential
community, where mutual care, valuing and promoting the physical, mental and spiritual

wellbeing of all our members is key.

What you will be doing:
  • Cleaning shared spaces to the highest standards, including
bathrooms, kitchenettes and shared main spaces.
  • Communicating resident concerns if necessary, during the weekend hours to our
emergency phone.
  • Engaging with our residents and staff in a positive and supportive manner.

What we are looking for:

Skills/Pukeka
  • Competent with the use of cleaning chemicals and equipment
  • Experience of working in a University setting or with a 17-19 year old age group.
Attributes/Ahuataka
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • A level of maturity to enable support of residents.
  • Ability to work unsupervised with a strong sense of responsibility
  • Self-motivated and well organised.
  • Strong attention to details.
  • Adaptable and Flexible with an ability to be proactive and an ability to take the
initiative when needed.
  • Good physical fitness, with strength and endurance to work in a busy
environment.
  • Pleasant, well-mannered and outgoing.
  • Willingness and ability to interact and relate well to residents and other staff.
Special Requirements
  • Staff are also required to comply with the Children’s Act 2014 and the

Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of

Practice 2021, including undergoing police safety checks.
Hours of work will be 8.30am to 2.30pm Saturday and Sunday during semester (hours to be worked Monday to Friday between November and February), parking is provided.
