Financial Accountant – Wellington-Based Contract Role (ASAP–3 July)

About the Role

You’ll support high-quality financial operations, ensuring accurate reporting, smooth financial processes, and strong compliance across the organisation. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working at pace and navigating the unique requirements of public-sector finance.

Key responsibilities include:

• Preparing external financial accountability documents, including annual financial statements and monthly reporting
• Supporting government financial planning and reporting processes
• Ensuring compliance with accounting standards and tax obligations (PAYE, GST, FBT)
• Monitoring cashflows and coordinating Treasury drawdowns
• Maintaining and improving financial processes and documentation
• Providing robust financial advice and supporting wider finance team activities

Key Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

• A tertiary accounting qualification
• 2+ years' experience of Hands-on experience with TechnologyOne
• Experience in the Public Sector, including government financial planning and reporting processes
• Experience using CFIS (Treasury’s Crown Financial Information System)
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to deliver accurate outputs under time pressure
• Clear communication skills and a collaborative mindset
