Duties include:caring for ward patients who have been admitted; admitting new patients;preforming day stay procedures with appropriate supervision.The hours are 8.00AM to 4.00PM daily with long days 4.00PMto 10.00PM. Night shifts will be 10.00PM to 8.00AM. Weekends (Saturday andSunday) are 8.00AM to 10.00PM. Nelson Hospital is also accredited for rural hospitaltraining, and we offer a variety of certified rotations for training.There is a strong expectationof teaching in our department. You will be expected to be present for teachingand to provide teaching.Nelson offers the ability to reallyupskill in all areas of medicine. The only other admitting speciality iscardiology and therefore a very wide breath of medicine is cared for daily.
You will have the opportunity to doprocedures such as chest drains, lumbar punctures, ascitic procedures withappropriate supervision and training.Please view the position description for furtherinformation.About the Team/Service/ LocationOur Nelson General Medical Team providesoutstanding clinical experience in undifferentiated Acute Adult Medicine withexcellent support from the Cardiology Team.
Our team of General Physicians are dual specialists withsub-specialty interests including Endocrinology/Diabetes, Gastroenterology andHepatology, Oncology and Haematology, Renal medicine and Intensive Care,Respiratory medicine, Rheumatology and Neurology.
These specialtypractices are predominantly outpatient service based with support provided tothe General Medical Admitting Team for inpatient sub-specialty advice andcare. All registrars are expected to participate in out-patientclinics with their allocated supervising specialist.
