Salary: $57,850 - $64,792

The Kia Rite Team at Archives New Zealand are looking for additional Archives Support Assistants to help us prepare and relocate our Wellington holdings into a purpose-built new facility.

At Te Rua Mahara o te Kawanatanga Archives New Zealand we work to ensure effective, trusted government record-keeping for the benefit of all New Zealanders. We preserve and protect more than seven million official records, from 19th century treaties to 21st century documents and data.

Our goal is for all New Zealanders to easily access and use this taonga, connecting you to your rights and entitlements and stories - now and for the future.

Te Ara Tahi is a shared journey of transformation across Te Rua Mahara o te Kawanatanga Archives New Zealand, Te Puna Matauranga o Aotearoa National Library of New Zealand and Nga Taonga Sound & Vision. It's about the institutions working more closely together, sharing expertise and resources to better meet the changing needs and expectations of New Zealanders.

One of the projects under Te Ara Tahi is Kia Rite, tasked with preparing and facilitating the relocation of our holdings to new facilities.

The Wellington office of Te Rua Mahara has 80km of archival holdings. You will be building our knowledge of these holdings by conducting shelf surveys and auditing control data to ensure accuracy and consistency. You will improve the storage of the archives through projects to relocate or re-package material identified by the surveys.

This is a fixed term role until December 2026.

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • a high level of focus to complete tasks
  • a strong eye for detail
  • a good level of physical fitness is essential as well as a level of comfort in a warehouse environment. The work requires light to medium lifting, and some work at height.
If you thrive on cutting edge projects, a genuine challenge, and knowing that what you do, you do for the good of New Zealand, we would very much like to hear from you.

We are an equal opportunity employer that values diversity and inclusion. We recognise a diverse workforce contributes to better business outcomes. We are committed to creating a workplace where all employees have equal access.
