The Role
You’ll be part of a supportive team providing 24/7 residential care. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to make a real difference—helping people with intellectual and mental health challenges. You will also work alongside different team members.
- You will help them live meaningful lives and manage health concerns.
- You will work with various individuals with demanding needs and intellectual disabilities.
- You will work more with male individuals and will have to deal with challenging behaviour, like heightened emotions and intense reactions.
- Creating a structured environment and being reliable and consistent is of great importance here.
- Support daily routines and managing health concerns, like diabetes.
You will work on a set biweekly roster with sleep overs.
Week 1:Monday: 3pm to 11pm
Wednesday: 3pm to 11pm and
11pm to 7am (Sleepover)
Week 2:Wednesday: 7am to 3pm
Thursday: 11pm to 7am (sleepover)
Sunday: 7am to 3pm
Additional hours may become available as things change.
This role is based in Palmerston-North and surrounding areas.
About You
It is really important that this is your passion. You work with individuals that are in need of care, acceptance and support to make their every day better. They expect reliability and routine and need to be sure that you will be there and are to be trusted. To thrive in this role, you will be:
- Compassionate, yet resilient.
- Have clear professional boundaries, while building and maintaining a trust relationship.
- Experience in providing personal care.
- Strong communication skills.
- The ability to engage positively with others will be essential.
- A calm demeanour.
- Experience supporting people with disabilities, particularly those with complex needs, or challenging behaviours, will be an advantage.
- An understanding of structured environments and sensory needs will further enable you to create safe, empowering spaces.
- Full NZ Driver's Licence
- Legal right to work in New Zealand
- Willingness to undergo criminal and Oranga Tamariki checks
- Current First Aid Certificate
- Certificate in Health and Wellbeing - Level 3 or 4
- Nursing background, with experience in diabetes management
