At Spectrum Care, we provide support for adults with intellectual and/or physical disabilities to live great lives.
This role is to support four young men and women with who share a house in Island Bay. They enjoy doing hip-hop, sports and going to events like festivals, rugby etc. They love drama/performing arts/music singing. Your role will be to support them to extend their social networks and skills, develop relationships and keep exploring what the world has to offer.
The ideal staff member will be vibrant, fun, self-motivated and innovative, a good listener, and someone who can assist these young people want support to make informed decisions and sometimes to take considered risks as they grow their independence skills.They will require emotional support while navigating love and relationships; not just the good times, but also the days that may not be full of sunshine and romance.
You’ll also assist them with the other things they want in life, like a job. So are they have said they would like work in childcare, car yards, and in motels and the retail sector. They are currently growing in independence so will need your help to learn the skills that they need to manage their budgets, support to cook healthy meals and the day to day normal flatting chores.

- Good at explaining and negotiating
- Ability to communicate effectively and supportively with family, colleagues and the person you support
- Ability and willingness to provide support and motivation with personal cares and daily living skills
- Excellent, clear, understandable verbal and written English is a pre-requisite to be considered for this role
- An interest in attaining a Community Support Worker Level Three or above qualification- we can support you to achieve this while you work
- Experience supporting people with disabilities, and or mental health issues, and/or behaviours that can be challenging is desirable but not necessary
- Reliability, commitment, and passion for working with people
- A full New Zealand driver's licence
- Able to pass a NZ police check
- The ability to use a computer effectively, including programs such as Word, Internet Explorer, and email
If you are a non-resident applying for this role you must meet the following INZ Level 3 skill requirements to be considered:
- Have worked in the care workforce for 2 years or more, and been paid at least the care workforce wage rate during that time, or• A relevant qualification on the New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework (NZQCF) — this must be at least a level 4 qualification for a role at skill level 3, or a diploma for a role at skill level 2.
