Fitter Welder, Fabricator, Boilermaker

Gilkison and Engineering Maintenance Limited are a well-established Engineering Company specialising in general mechanical, structural and maintenance engineering. Due to an uplift in general workload, we are looking for more full time employees.

We are looking to take on board experienced Fitter Welders, Fabricators and/or Boiler Makers to join our repair and maintenance team

About the roles:

  • You will be completing repair work within the construction, aluminium smelting, meat processing, timber milling, fibre board manufacturing, fertiliser quarrying and manufacture, mining and agriculture industries
  • You will need to be competent in the use of general workshop equipment: MIG & stick welders, saws, brake press, guillotine, rolls, drills, grinders, punch & shear machines, overhead gantry cranes etc
  • Have the ability to use general hand tools, dills, disc grinders etc
  • You will need to have fabrication skills and be working mainly with Carbon Steel in this role but sometimes Alloy or Stainless Steel, eg steel cutting, setting-out, welding, gas cutting grinding, trimming will also be required
  • You will be able to read engineering drawings.
  • Be comfortable working at heights and within confined spaces, elevated work platforms (eg JLGs/Boom lifts, Scissor lifts & Cherry pickers, we will provide the training/licenses to operate)

Would be desirable to have skills in fault finding including the repairs and maintenance of machinery.

About you:

  • Have several years’ experience in the trade (minimum 2 years or post apprenticeship)
  • You hold, or have held, formal Carbon Steel welding qualifications/or can demonstrate your skills
  • You’re self-motivated, punctual & well presented
  • You have good English language skills & a good understanding of mathematics
  • You are able to work in a team environment and work in small crews on customer sites
  • You are drug free, physically fit & in good health
  • Be prepared to work over time & be flexible in the hours of work
  • You have a current driver’s license
Other desirable skills: (but not compulsory)
  • You are trade trained/served an apprenticeship preferably as a Fitter Welder/Boilermaker (generally equal to New Zealand National Certificate in Engineering – Heavy Fabrication Level 4). The more years of on the tools experience, the better
  • Have basic computer/internet skills (it is now common to have Inductions & Safety training via the internet)
  • You have proven Carbon, Alloy and/or Stainless Steel TIG welding skills
  • Any Machining skills, eg Lathe Mills, surfaces grinders and CNC experience would all be advantageous

Any existing licenses/training, including Forklift, Confined Access Training, Working at heights, Elevated Work Platform, Fire extinguisher, any Heavy Traffic licenses would all be advantageous

Benefits:

  • A generous hourly wage ($28.00 - $37.00) is on offer based on your skills, work experience and qualifications. Penal rates apply with after 8 hours, this is paid at time and a half – and after the 13th hour, this is at double time
  • With Saturday being time and a half for the first 8 hrs, then anything over that is double time
  • Any work performed on Sunday is at double time
  • PPE is provided, including boots, gloves, overalls and PAPR Welding helmet
