Cook - Kai Maori Experience
Responsible for preparing catered meals (e.g. Geothermal Hangi Meals and Hangi Pies), cabinet food and made-to-order food items, you will be working in our back-of-house Café team and will be responsible for ensuring top-notch food and kai products, applicable food safety compliance, excellent customer service, communication and a memorable kai Maori dining experience all delivered with manaakitanga.
We are looking for someone to fulfil the role from Monday to Friday, with some odd weekend mahi here and there to meet our busy summer schedule. The position is full-time (35hrs per week) on a fixed-term contract until the end of April 2026.
Specific duties and responsibilities:- Preparation of food, ensuring consistent portion and presentation, to produce meals that are of a high standard in accordance with company standards, guidelines and recipes.
- Ensure that recipes and proportions are strictly adhered to, to ensure consistency, quality and cost control, meeting required standards.
- Keep track of supplies and advise the appropriate manager to order new ingredients as required.
- Manage and rotate stock to ensure freshness and food safety.
- Ensure all equipment and work environments are operational.
- Support management in the creation of new dishes and menu items.
- Ensure front of house staff are informed of ingredients, menu changes, daily specials and serving specifications via communication on a daily basis, and throughout the day as required.
- Maintain a clean and organised workspace, adhering to food safety regulations and compliance, hygiene and safety.
- Set and maintain standards for food safety in areas of responsibility, overseeing other team members and ensuring they also adhere to expected standards.
- Working efficiently in a fast-paced environment and handling pressure during service.
- Foster an environment of effective communication within team, and with other teams and people working across the organisation.
- Share ideas, develop recipes, food service and presentation to help elevate our food offering, as required.
- Contribute ideas and positive solutions to enhance efficiency, quality and a unique kai Maori offering.
- Support the Café Manager and team to deliver an innovative and quality kai Maori focus and experience.

Skills, experience:- Excellent communication skills, customer skills, motivational and leadership skills.
- Competent cookery and knife skills. At least 2 years cooking experience in either a Café or Restaurant environment.

- Ability to work competently under pressure with good time management and the ability to multitask.
- Reliable & flexible to change.
- A genuine interest in kai Maori and delivering an exceptional food experience for all manuhiri.
