Train Driver (16 March intake)
We are looking for flexible, safety-minded people to join us in the operation of the Auckland metro train services. Auckland One Rail Train Drivers are critical to our success in delivering over 3,700 passenger services per week here in Auckland, and with public transport growing rapidly we are looking for people who want to kick start their career.
The Role
**We are currently recruiting for limited vacancies for the 16 March 2026 Train Driver school only**
You will initially be based at our Wiri depot for the first 17 weeks, which includes nine weeks of classroom-based study, Monday to Friday, followed by mechanical training. You will then complete on the job training at Wiri and across the network for the rest of the training year.We are looking for dedicated individuals who are able to commit to studying both during class and in their own time. Successful candidates will not be able to take any extended leave for the first four months of classroom and practical training.
No experience driving a train is required as full training is provided. As a qualified Train Driver you will ultimately be responsible for operating our trains and transporting our customers in a safe, economic, responsible manner. You will need to be able to troubleshoot and solve problems under pressure, have good knowledge and retention of rules, regulations and procedures and be comfortable working on your own for long periods of time whilst remaining alert and focused.
Requirements- The ability to work shifts over a 24 hour/7-day period including weekends and public holidays.
- The right to work in NZ (NZ Citizenship or Permanent Residency).
- A full, clean, current NZ Driver License with access to a reliable vehicle.
- An acute awareness of health and safety practices.
- A positive and proactive attitude towards safety.
- A level head in times of stress or pressure to make sound judgement.
- An aptitude for solving technical and mechanical problems.
- The ability to concentrate and remain vigilant for long periods of time.
- Ability to follow rules and regulations.
- Acceptable level of health and fitness as you will need to pass a thorough medical check.
- Paid training provided, including classroom-based theory, practical and on the job training.
- Competitive pay rate that rises as you become qualified.
- NZQA Level 4 qualification on completion.
- Free train travel.
