Au Mahi | What You Will Do
Working under the guidance of experienced electricians you will perform maintenance, repair, and installation of electrical systems and equipment across the university's facilities. You'll have hands-on learning opportunities to develop technical skills, gain industry knowledge and qualifications, while contributing to the operational efficiency and safety of the university's infrastructure.
You will complete a structured training program, combining on-the-job training with formal education modules that cover topics such as tool use and safety; electrical systems diagnostics and troubleshooting; schematic reading and interpretation; and preventive maintenance practices.You will undertake on and off job assessments and Electrical Workers Registration Board exams in your final year.

You will have a genuine interest in electrical systems, equipment and machinery as well as:
- ability to work collaboratively in a team and take direction
- strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- good communication skills and an eagerness to learn
- NCEA Level 2 or equivalent
- physical fitness to perform tasks, including lifting and moving heavy equipment
- willingness to work in industrial environments, such as noisy, hot, or confined spaces
- good computer skills
- basic understanding of workplace safety practices
- an alignment with our organisation's values and culture, promoting a positive and inclusive work environment.
The following attributes are highly desirable but not essential:
- Technical coursework in electrical engineering
- Pre-trade completion
- Current full NZ Driver's licence
