Are you a hands-on leader with a background in general engineering or fabrication?
Looking to step into a pivotal role where you can take charge of workshop operations, support the team, and help steer a growing Southland business?
Taylor Engineering is a well-respected, locally owned engineering business based in Invercargill. We specialise in fabrication, mobile farm servicing, and industrial engineering solutions across Southland – including major contract work with clients like Fonterra.

We’re now looking for a capable and experienced Foreman / 2IC to join the team and support daily operations.

About the Role

This is a key leadership role, working closely with the business owner to run the day-to-day operations of the workshop and field jobs. You’ll manage the team, coordinate job flow, solve problems on the fly, and ensure jobs are completed to spec, on time, and safely.

You’ll be the go-to person on the ground – confident in your trade, calm under pressure, and able to keep people and jobs moving.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Planning and running daily workshop and site jobs
  • Leading, supporting, and supervising the team
  • Managing workflow, quality, and productivity
  • Liaising with clients and suppliers on job delivery
  • Supporting quoting and materials planning
  • Ensuring high safety standards and clean job sites
  • Reporting to and working alongside the owner
What We’re Looking For
  • 5+ years’ experience in general engineering or fabrication
  • Proven leadership or foreman experience
  • Skilled in MIG, TIG, and Arc welding
  • Strong with job planning, people coordination, and quality control
  • Good communicator with a calm, team-first attitude
  • Confident using job cards, timesheets, and basic tech tools
  • Full NZ Class 1 licence (Class 2 or WTR a bonus)
