Social Worker for Ngā Pa Harakeke o Tāmakiat Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children -
Someone who is willing to work through tricky and challenging situations which involves both care and protection and youth justice. Someone who will manaaki and whakamana tamariki and whānau for better outcomes. Mō te tūnga | About the roleNgā Pā Harakeke o Tāmaki:The Ngā Pā Harakeke team is 1 of 3 teams based in Grey Lynn alongside other Tāmaki Makaurau Specialist Teams (TMS).
This team work with tamariki aged between 10- 14 years throughout Tāmaki Makaurau region through an intensive social work practice model.
The team traditionally hold lower caseloads than those seen at site, however covering both Family Court and Youth Court jurisdictions.
Additionally, the team works collaboratively with each other ensuring that kaimahi have significant support to provide the best practice and outcomes for tamariki and whānau.As part of this team, staff applying are hoped to have some knowledge of either the Family or Youth Court processes and can work with highly complex cases.
Often tamariki involved with the team require creative and innovative plans, and kaimahi need to be able to adapt, pivot and create pathways for tamariki and their whānau.
The Ngā Pā Harakeke o Tāmaki tikanga includes: Whānau participation and Tamariki engagement.
Trauma informed practice and acknowledgement of intergenerational trauma.Neurodiverse understanding and application.
Safety first
- ensuring that tamariki are safe within a context of their whānau and whakapapa.
- identifying the risks, strengths and needs of tamariki (through whakapapa, whanaungatanga, mana tamaiti, safety, health, education, identity, and wellbeing).
Developing innovative and tailored plans with tamariki in conjunction with their whānau and professional support network.
Implementing, monitoring, and managing the individual plans for tamariki.In addition to working alongside a supportive team, staff in the Ngā Pā Harakeke o Tāmaki team have frequent supervision as well as training in addition to the regular Oranga Tamariki staff training (such as training in Motivational Interviewing, Intensive Wraparound Service Programme and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy).
Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bringWithin the specialist team we're looking for candidates: Experienced with knowledge of Family or/and Youth Court jurisdictions Motivated to provide a high level of practice to rangatahi and whānau History in managing complex tamariki and whanau A team player and ability to work as part of a team Knowledge of current models of practice and a willingness to learn Understand and practice the value of self-care to create resilience Social work registration and annual practicing certificate Cultural awareness and good relationship management Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices in particular; knowledge of tikanga Māori and working with Pasifika.
