Mo matou: About us

At Te Nukuao Wellington Zoo we are guided by our kaupapa “Me tiaki, kia ora!” – we must look after our environment so all life will flourish. We punch above our weight in leading the way through connecting people with animals, saving animals in the wild and ensuring we're a voice to be heard.

Mo te turanga: About the role

We are looking for volunteers for our Nutrition Centre where we prepare and provide the daily diets for all animals. We collaborate closely with our veterinarians and animal keepers to ensure diets are current and meet nutritional requirements.

As a Volunteer you will play an important role in supporting the Zoo to provide the highest standards of animal care and welfare.

It is important to note our volunteers do not have any hands-on animal contact.

Some of the tasks can be strenuous and dirty and you can be on your feet a lot of the time. An idea of the things you might be asked to do include:

  • Food preparation (vegetable and meat)
  • Stock taking
  • Assisting with deliveries
  • Stock rotating
  • Cleaning

Volunteers are only required Monday to Friday. The earliest you would start is 9:30am and the latest finish time is 4:30pm.
