The Auditor-General is the statutory auditor of all public organisations, playing a major part in ensuring that New Zealand's public sector remains one of the most trusted in the world.

No other organisation, public or private, has the overview of the whole public sector that the Office of the Auditor-General has.We're looking for a Senior Advisor, International Engagement for a fixed-term or secondment through to December 2026.

This is an opportunity to use your audit skills to make a difference by supporting governance, accountability, and transparency across the Pacific region.In this role, you'll be part of a large capacity development program involving a wide range of project-based activities.

The work includes providing technical support to public sector auditors (including our twinning partners in the Cook Islands and Samoa), connecting with international stakeholders, supporting engagement activities such as official visits, and monitoring and reporting related to funding agreements with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

You'll be working closely with the Pacific Association of Supreme Audit Institutions (PASAI), Pacific audit institutions, and the Auditor-General of New Zealand in his role as the Auditor-General for the Governments of Niue and Tokelau.
You'll also be part of collaborations with other New Zealand and Australian agencies working to improve governance in the Pacific.To be successful in this role, you'll have:a solid understanding of accounting and auditing theory and principles;up-to-date knowledge of and experience with accounting and auditing practices;excellent relationship and work program management skills; at least four years' practical experience in public accounting and financial management, or in external audits of government organisations;good verbal and written communication skills; andexperience advising on and providing one-on-one and group training, with the ability to develop material for a range of audiences and platforms.We offer our staff:Ongoing learning and professional development opportunities.Supportive hybrid working arrangements (flexible hours/days).Health and well-being benefits.Read more
