- Waitematā.As a casual allied health assistant you will provide therapy, motivation and support to a variety of adult patients, carrying out a range of tasks and activities to support them in their rehabilitation journey.You will work under the guidance of an interdisciplinary team, supporting and assisting Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech Language Therapists.
You will carry out prescribed rehabilitation programmes that will be focused on the patient’s goals.
This could be within a patient’s own home, in their facility room, in a therapy gym or on the wards, depending on what team you support.You may work by yourself with the patient, or alongside a clinician or you may be involved in running a group class.
The programmes may include supporting patients with exercises or activities to improve their day to day function, independence and communication.Some of the things you may support a patient to do are to make their breakfast by themselves again, do balance and strength exercises, or have a supported conversation in a group session; to name a few!
You will also support equipment provision as guided by the clinicians.About the Team/Service/ LocationThe allied health teams where work may be available, are based on the North Shore and in West Auckland.
These teams work with adult patients with a variety of needs, mostly in the area of rehabilitation, for people following an acute medical event, such as a stroke, fracture(s), an amputation or people needing rehabilitation following a medical illness.The teams you could work in are:the Interim Care Service – working with patients who have suffered an injury, who need temporary care in an aged residential care facility (in the North Shore and Henderson areas), and who with rehabilitation will return homethe EDARS team (Early Discharge and Rehabilitation Service)
- working with patients who are home and need further rehabilitation to maximise their independence and functionthe community allied health team – working with patients in their homes, supporting them to remain safe at home, setting up equipment and providing therapy where neededinpatient wards
- working with patients who need rehabilitation in order to return home – North Shore Hospital and / or Waitakere HospitalFor more information on living and working in Auckland click hereAbout youWe are seeking dedicated, honest, hard-working and reliable individuals with strong time management skills and who are proactive in their approach.
The allied health teams work between the hours of 7.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday, so casual hours available will be offered during this time range.
We welcome applications from candidates that are open to working full days (8 hour days) as well as those who are available less hours in the day, e.g.school hours.This casual position is well suited to those already working part-time who want non-permanent additional hours and the flexibility that a casual contract offers; or, to those who may not wish to be committed to permanent contracted hours e.g.
