We are on the hunt for passionate kitchen superstars for Wãnaka's newest English pub - The Paddle & Pint located on the scenic lakefront! You will be an integral part of the kitchen team working alongside our Head Chef, as you learn and develop your skills.

You must have a passion for great food and service and also have the drive to succeed in the hospitality sector.

Objective:

Plan, oversee, and organise the preparation and cooking of food.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and develop menus;
  • Manage staff and food costs;
  • Oversee food supplied and oversee deliveries ensuring supplies stored safely and hygienically;
  • Monitor quality of dishes at all stages of preparation and presentation;
  • Oversee and train staff, including delegating tasks to ensure efficient and effective work;
  • Prepare, season, and cook food;
  • Check all food safety regulations and procedures fully complied with;
  • Report any defective equipment or safety hazards with the kitchen;
  • Control departmental costs and expenses and conduct regular wastage checks;
  • Keep proper portion control and presentation techniques to meet customer expectations;
  • Assist in achieving the weekly/period budgeted food gross profit percentage margin;
  • Keep all work areas, chiller, storeroom, and outside areas clean and tidy;
  • Ensure safe working procedures comply with statutory and company health and safety regulations, especially fire precautions, manual handling, chemical usage and storage, disposal of waste materials, and reporting of accidents;
  • Demonstrate techniques and advise on cooking procedures.
  • Collaborate with the FOH staff to ensure good communication and maintain customer satisfaction.

The successful applicant will have the following attributes/ skills:

  • Ability to understand food preparation techniques, cooking methods and sanitation practices
  • Excellent attitude and work ethic
  • Committed to preparation of food to a very high standard
  • Have a habit of personal cleanliness
  • Willingness to follow directions exactly
  • Clear verbal communication skills
  • Flexibility to work various shifts including weekends and evenings
  • A minimum of two years chef experience
Who we are and what we offer - The Paddle & Pint is Wãnaka's newest English pub, opening mid December. We guarantee the successful applicant a minimum of 30 hours a week, full support to progress your culinary career and a fun and diverse working environment.

Competitive hourly rate range $25-$35.
