General Manager
The Louise Nicholas Trust is seeking a passionate, strategic, and values-driven General Manager to lead and grow our organisation as we continue advocating for and supporting survivors of sexual violence across Aotearoa New Zealand.

About the Role
Reporting to the Louise Nicholas Trust Board, the General Manager will provide overall leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight of the Trust. This role is responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of our Strategic Plan, strengthening financial sustainability, leading external relationships, supporting staff wellbeing, and growing the Trust’s national impact.
The role includes leadership across:
- Strategic planning and organisational delivery
- Funding, partnerships, and sustainability
- Stakeholder and government relationships
- Staff leadership and organisational culture
- Systems, compliance, and continuous improvement
- Communications, advocacy, and reputation management
About You
We are looking for a collaborative and capable leader who can balance strategic thinking with hands-on operational delivery. You will be comfortable working within a small, high-trust team environment while confidently representing the Trust at a national level.
You will bring:
- Proven senior leadership experience within the not-for-profit, public, or community sector
- Strong strategic planning and organisational leadership capability
- Experience translating strategy into measurable operational outcomes
- Strong stakeholder relationship management and partnership-building skills
- Experience engaging with government agencies, funders, and sector leaders
- Demonstrated success in securing funding and supporting organisational sustainability
- Financial and commercial acumen, including oversight of budgets, reporting, and funding contracts
- Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to represent the Trust professionally and authentically
- Experience leading and supporting small teams in high-trust environments
- The ability to build positive organisational culture, accountability, and staff wellbeing
- Strong operational management, reporting, and process improvement capability
- Confidence implementing systems and strengthening organisational processes
- Experience with risk management, compliance, and governance reporting
- An understanding of data collection and impact reporting for decision making and accountability
- A commitment to continuous improvement and organisational growth
- Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tikanga Maori
- Experience working alongside Maori and diverse communities
- A trauma-informed, survivor-centred, and values-driven approach
Desirable Experience
Experience within the social services, justice, advocacy, or violence prevention sectors will be highly regarded, along with:
- Experience working alongside Maori and diverse communities
- Understanding of kaupapa Maori approaches and culturally responsive practice
- Relevant tertiary qualifications
- 20 hours per week
- Flexible location within New Zealand
- Minimum expectation of four days per month in the Rotorua office
- Some national travel may be required
- Hourly rate dependent on experience and funding capacity
