About the Role:
We’re looking for a hands-on Civil and Earthworks Foreman based in the Canterbury region. This role combines operational responsibility with site leadership, overseeing earthworks and subdivision projects from bulk cut to final trim and pavement prep.
You’ll lead crews across a range of civil works including site cuts, subgrade prep, roading, and pavement construction.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced operator stepping into leadership, or a Foreman who still enjoys being on the tools.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead and work alongside a civil crews on earthworks and subdivision projects
- Operate plant and equipment including excavators, loaders, rollers, and trucks
- Deliver works across subdivisions, road construction, and private development sites
- Oversee site cuts, trims, subgrade preparation, and pavement construction
- Liaise with the Project Manager and subcontractors to keep projects on track
- Promote a strong culture of site safety, quality workmanship, and team performance
- Assist with site planning, set-out understanding, and day-to-day problem-solving
- Full-time role with long-term local projects in the Canterbury region
- Varied and hands-on work across earthworks, roading, and subdivisions

You’re a natural leader with a strong background in civil construction — particularly in earthworks, subdivisions, and pavements. You’re confident running a site, enjoy being on the tools, and lead by example with safety and work ethic.
What You’ll Bring:- Proven experience in earthworks, site works, and subdivision development
- Strong understanding of levels, trims, subgrade prep, and pavement construction
- Strong knowledge of survey and setout
- Experience operating excavators (1.7t – 30t) and other civil machinery
- WTR license required, Class 2 or 4 license preferred
- Ability to read plans and understand set-out (or work closely with surveyors)
- Solid knowledge of site safety, QA, and construction standards
- Reliable communicator, team builder, and adaptable problem solver
