Henderson Home Community Homes provides residential care for intellectual, physical or sensory disability, dual diagnosis and also holds individual mental health contracts, located in Hoon Hay, Christchurch.

You will be part of a team who will provide a safe environment where people can develop confidence and new skills, build friendships with peers and interact with others in the community.

This position guarantees a minimum of 88 hours per fortnight this could be:
  • Morning shifts 6.30am - 3.00pm/7.30am - 4.00pm
  • Sleepover shifts
  • Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday Sunday & Week 2: Monday, Tuesday & Thursday (weekend work alternative weekends)

Our Expectation of a Support Worker:

As a support worker you will support our people in their home and the community to lead fulfilling and meaningful lives to achieve their personal goals and dreams by doing daily tasks with them. Task includes:
  • Monitoring and reporting on the progress of the clients and their needs
  • Reporting to RN/Managers any health concerns of the clients and recording accurately and reporting
objectively
  • Showering and toileting (if required)
  • Accompanying clients on outings, daily activities and doctor's appointments
  • Transporting clients to day placements
  • Assisting with preparation of meals, grocery shopping, keeping the clients' home clean and tidy
Preferable requirements:
  • Level 0-4 New Zealand Health & Wellbeing or equivalent studies with the intention of furthering your skills.
  • Experience dealing with complex and challenging behaviors in people with intellectual and physical disabilities
of all ages(Preferred but not necessary).
  • Able to work weekdays, weekends, public holidays

  • Be able to relate to people of all ages and ethnicities with the ability to use alternative communication
techniques.
  • Open minded and willingness to listen.
  • Want to make a difference everyday.
  • Good sense of humor.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and autonomously.
  • Empathy, respect and cultural awareness is the most important part of this role.
  • Must have full driver's license.
Benefit:
  • Support workers will be paid based on their qualification as per the Support Workers (Pay Equity) Settlement
Act 2017 ranging from $26.25 - $30.40 per hour.
