About the Role

Taranaki is moving to separate the anaesthesia and intensive care RMO rosters. The initial SHO positions are a bridge to registrar positions which commence in February 2027. The role will include all RMO duties required in the intensive care unit including daily ward rounds with the SMO, admission and discharge of patients from the unit.

Review of HDU patients in the unit. Review of deteriorating patients in the ICU/HDU/CCU complex and in the emergency department and on the inpatient wards. The role will also include attendance of MET calls on the ward and working with the Patient-at-risk (PAR) nurses when requested.

Taranaki ICU is moving into a brand new dedicated 18 bed intensive care unit in May 2026. The ICU is transitioning from being an open unit with no immediately available RMO to a 24/7 RMO in residence on the ICU model. Taranaki is currently registered for foundation training with the college of intensive care medicine (CICM) and as part of this transition will apply to be a general training unit registered for 6 months of training (G6).

Applicants who are registered for training in anaesthesia, emergency medicine, medicine, rural hospital medicine and surgery are also welcome to apply.
