Second-in-Charge / Tractor Driver / Farm Hand - Fairlie
Hours: 40–50 hours/week (with seasonal and peak period variability)
Buscot Station, a productive sheep and beef property in Omarama, is seeking a skilled and motivated Second-in-Charge (2IC) / Tractor Driver / General Farm Hand to join our team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with solid farming experience who enjoys variety in their day, takes pride in quality work, and is ready to step up when required.
About the Role
As 2IC, you’ll play a key part in the daily running of the farm. You’ll lead operations when the Farm Manager is away, operate a range of farm machinery, maintain infrastructure, and support livestock care throughout the seasons. You’ll also help foster a positive, safe, and efficient work environment.
Key Responsibilities- Operate and maintain tractors and machinery (feeding out, cultivation, spraying)
- Install and repair fences, water systems, and farm buildings
- Assist with livestock handling, animal health, and seasonal events (lambing, calving, docking, etc.)
- Take the lead in the Farm Manager’s absence: coordinate tasks, support junior staff, and uphold safety standards
- Maintain accurate records and adhere to all Health & Safety requirements
- 5+ years’ experience in sheep and/or beef farming
- Confident operating tractors and handling livestock
- Good knowledge of pasture and stock management
- Positive communicator with a team-focused attitude
- Strong initiative and ability to work independently
- Physically fit and adaptable to changing farm demands
- Full NZ driver’s license (Class 1 required)
- Agricultural training (Ag ITO, Lincoln, Telford, etc.)
- First Aid Certificate
- Quad bike and tractor certification
