Bar & Barista Duty Manager
FLAX & Co. is a beautiful venue in a peaceful location overlooking a lake with FREE Parking, in the heart of the Preston’s community in Christchurch, just 10 mins from the city centre. We have established ourselves as the go to, independent café by day & a community restaurant, wine & cocktail bar by night.

DAYTIME - we are delivering a daily 'Switch Espresso' Coffee fix, homemade cakes & sweet treats & Grizzly Baked Goods, alongside an all-day Brunch menu. EVENINGS - we offer a modern fresh menu inspired by the seasons & our travels, all washed down with some of our favourite hand selected NZ wines & beers from craft brewers we love.
Due to the chameleon nature of the business, we are seeking a Duty Manager that knows a lot about coffee as well as the bar! You need a current DM License & will work alongside the General Manager & owners, running shifts as required & leading a team of happy smiley people who love delivering the best hospitality & top-notch food & drink.
This role is permanent & could be full time or/ a part time role share.
As the ‘Barista & Bar Manager’ your role can be broken down as follows -- You will be skilled & passionate about all thing’s coffee. You will have previous experience & the ability to work on a busy machine & able to help lead & train a small team to consistently prepare & deliver high quality coffee beverages & other menu items to the set recipes
- You will have a passion for wine & experience making cocktails, leading from the front, delivering the ‘perfect pour’ every time & always with a smile
- You will ensure a smooth seamless service, be confident working with fresh food & communicating with the kitchen, ensuring compliance with health & safety regulations, as well as helping with ordering, opening / closing the venue & day to day shift management when the General Manager is on leave or having a day off. You will need to be confident to manage cash register operations & handling cash accurately & able to help with cash up & banking as & when required

To be successful in this role you will need to -- Have a broad knowledge of coffee, wine, drink & food service with a genuine passion for delivering consistent & memorable experiences
- Be flexible to work a mixture of days, nights & weekends & be available throughout the festive season
- Have great communication skills, willing to work closely with The General Manager, The Owners & The Community
- A current Duty Managers Licence
- Ability to work flexibly
