Te Ra Nui, Eastern Porirua Development is a partnership between Kainga Ora, Porirua City Council and Ngati Toa Rangatira. Working in collaboration with the community, these three organisations are the guardians of an investment that will see Porirua become an even better place to live, work and play for the people of Porirua.

All about the job

You’ll be leading a team of up to 5 cadets, to ensure our revegetation project is well planned and delivered.

You will be responsible for:
  • daily leadership and coaching of a team of cadets,
  • ensuring work is completed at a high standard, and meets service level agreements
  • nursery inventory and production, site preparation (spraying and clearing), planting and on-going maintenance
  • problem solving any daily issues with the team and the Manager - Eastern Porirua Cadetship Programme
  • applying pesticides and fertilisers, as may be required by work programmes, in a safe and effective manner.
  • providing friendly, positive and professional customer service excellence at all times

Please note this is a fixed term role, until 30 June 2026.

All about you

This role is a great role for someone who has experience in horticulture, and the ability to lead and motivate others. This role will give you pride in your work and have a positive impact in the presentation of the city.

You’ll need to show us that you:
  • are an effective team leader
  • can demonstrate practical experience in horticulture
  • have a Level 4 Amenity Horticulture qualification or equivalent;
  • are able to supervise staff to ensure programmed maintenance schedules are carried out
  • have excellent customer service and relationship management skills
