Mental Health Support Worker - Tokoroa
We are a mental health supported accommodation service with homes in Matamata and Putaruru.
We require a permanent staff member to work a minimum of 30 hours per week, supporting adults with mental health needs.
This role will include weekend and awake over night shifts.
JOB DESCRIPTION
PERSON SPECIFICATION:- Has experience working with people with health support needs
- Has a Mental Health Support Work Certificate (Level 4 ) or equivalent
- Has a current First Aid Certificate
- Has a full Drivers Licence
- Is physically able to carry out expected duties
- Has a satisfactory NZ Police vetting result
- Able to relate to people from different cultures and backgrounds
- Good written and oral communication skills
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION: Whaiora are supported in their growth and recovery by encouraging self-care, community inclusion and assistance towards the achievement of their goals.
Responsibility: 1. To promote the independence and wellbeing of our whaiora.Expected Result: 1.1 The support worker will assist in the assessment and care planning with whaiora.
- 2 The support worker will work with our whaiora to maintain maximum independence with hygiene and grooming.
- 3 Whaiora will be supported to set and achieve recovery focused goals.
- 4 The support worker will educate and supervise whaiora with daily living skills.
- 5 Whaiora will maintain their own rooms with supervision or assistance from the support worker.
- 6 The support worker will escort or assist whaiora in community activities.
- 7 The support worker will educate whaiora about their medication and assist in safe medication administration.
- 8 The support worker will attend and contribute to whaiora meetings.
- 9 The support worker will show recognition and respect for the resident’s cultural and spiritual beliefs.
Expected Result: 2.1 The support worker will maintain personal hygiene, as per policies whilst working with with whaiora and around the home.
- 2 The support worker will maintain a clean and tidy working environment at all times.
- 3 Whaiora ablution areas will be maintained clean, safe and odour free.
- 4 All areas used by whaiora will be clean and tidy.
- 5 The support worker will assist the cook to maintain the kitchen and the dining room in a clean and tidy state.
Responsibility: 3. To provide sufficient hygienic laundered items whaiora and kitchen use.
Expected Result: 3.1 The support worker will provide a laundry service for residents personal clothing and linen if they are unable to manage this independently.- 2 The support worker will assist in washing and processing kitchen laundry and returning to the kitchen in a clean and hygienic state.
Expected Result: 4.1 The support worker will use and store all chemicals safely.
- 2 The correct equipment will be used for each activity.
- 3 The support worker will wear any protective clothing as required for infection control purposes.
- 4 The support worker will follow infection control policies and procedures.
- 5 All hazards that are identified will be communicated to the Manager and documented as per procedure.
- 6 All maintenance requirements will be documented on the maintenance form and reported to management if urgent attention required.
Expected Result: 5.1 The support worker will communicate pertinent information to the Manager and Registered Social Worker and other staff.
- 2 The support worker will record pertinent, objective information in the residents’ daily notes and clinical records.
- 3 The support worker will assist with telephone enquiries and recording messages.
- 4 The support worker will facilitate visitor requirements.
Expected Result: 6.1 The support worker will be an active member of the quality management team.
- 2 The support worker will assist with audits as directed by the Manager and Registered Social Worker.
Expected Result: 7.1 The support worker will maintain a high level of presentation and a high standard of work.
- 2 The support worker will attend staff meetings and education and training opportunities offered.
- 3 The support worker will carry out any and all other duties as required by management.
The pay rate is $28.25 per hour.
