Full Time Taproom Duty Manager

As the Duty Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of our taproom, with a primary focus on craft beer offerings from the Mean Doses brewery. This position requires strong management skills, including staff management, stock control, banking, and overseeing various operational aspects.
- Staff Supervision: Provide guidance and support to taproom staff, including training, scheduling, and performance management. Ensure all staff on shift receive their required breaks.
- Craft Beer Expertise: Have in-depth knowledge of the Mean Doses brewery and its craft beer offerings, including beer styles, flavor profiles, ingredients, and brewing processes.
- Customer Service: Lead by example in delivering exceptional customer service, ensuring customers have a positive experience while visiting the taproom.
- Ordering and Inventory Control: Manage inventory levels of craft beers, ingredients, and other supplies, placing timely orders to maintain stock levels and minimize waste.
- Beer Service: Pour and serve craft beer, maintaining proper glassware and presentation standards, while adhering to the Mean Doses Taproom Host Responsibility Policy. Able to troubleshoot issues with draught beer systems.
- Compliance and Safety: Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012, food safety, host responsibility, health and safety standards.
- Event Coordination: Assist in planning and executing taproom events, such as beer tastings, brewery tours, and promotional activities.
- Food Service: Prepare and serve various meals from the Mean Doses Taproom Kitchen, while maintaining a hygienic kitchen area and fulfilling all aspects required by the Food Control Plan. Also serve meals prepared by neighboring Apache restaurant.
- Banking and Cash Handling: Handle cash transactions, reconcile daily cash register balances, and manage banking deposits in accordance with company procedures.
- Bar Cleanliness and Organization: Ensure staff maintain a clean and organized bar area, including glassware, utensils, and bar equipment, ensuring compliance with sanitation and hygiene standards.
- Taproom Operations: Direct and assist in opening and closing procedures, restocking inventory, and maintaining sufficient supplies of glassware, napkins, toilet paper and other bar essentials.
- Customer Engagement: Foster a friendly and engaging atmosphere by interacting with customers, addressing inquiries, just having a general chat and providing recommendations to enhance their overall experience.
- Teamwork: Collaborate with other bartenders and staff members to ensure efficient service, effective communication, and a harmonious work environment.
- Taproom Cleaning: Maintain a clean and presentable venue by ensuring daily and weekly cleaning tasks are completed, such as deep-cleaning, sweeping, mopping, toilet cleaning etc.
- Inclusivity: Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all individuals, irrespective of their gender, race, ethnicity, or background. Foster a culture of respect and ensure that all patrons feel valued and comfortable while enjoying their time at Mean Doses Taproom.
Pay rate is $28.95 an hour, in keeping with the living wage. Minimum 30 hours per week.
Job Qualifications & Requirements- Prior Experience: Minimum two years in a managerial role within the food and beverage industry, preferably in a craft beer-focused establishment.
- Current Manager’s Certificate and Licence Controller Qualification: is required.
- Knowledge of Craft Beer: Strong understanding of craft beer styles, brewing processes, and industry trends. * Familiarity with Mean Doses brewery products is a plus.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to effectively manage time, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Leadership Abilities: Proven experience in leading and motivating a team, fostering a positive work environment, and resolving conflicts.
- Attention to Detail: Keen eye for detail, ensuring accurate record-keeping, inventory management, and adherence to quality standards.
- Excellent Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage with customers, staff, and suppliers professionally.
- Responsible Alcohol Service: Understanding of responsible alcohol service practices as required by the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012, including checking IDs, recognizing signs of intoxication, and refusing service when necessary.
- Flexibility: Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as per the taproom's operational schedule.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, move kegs, and perform tasks that require physical strength and endurance.
