Orchard Leading Hand

HIGHEND CONTRACTING LIMITED, operating within the horticulture industry, is seeking Orchard Leading Hands to join its team in Te Puke, Bay of Plenty. We are looking for individuals with strong leadership skills, practical horticulture experience, and the ability to coordinate and supervise orchard activities effectively.

• Lead multiple work teams undertaking horticultural tasks across the orchard.
• Lead and oversee activities, including but not limited to -

• Provide on-site guidance and direction to workers to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and according to production schedules.
• Demonstrate correct horticultural techniques and safe work practices to maintain quality and productivity standards.
• Monitor worker performance during shifts and report progress or issues to the Orchard Supervisor.
• Assist with coordinating daily work plans based on weather conditions, crop requirements, and operational priorities.
• Ensure fruit is harvested, handled, and packed in accordance with quality and food safety standards.
• Check tools, equipment, and materials before and after use to ensure they are safe and operational.
• Support training of new or seasonal workers on orchard procedures and health and safety requirements.
• Maintain the cleanliness and organisation of the orchard work areas.
• Identify and report pest, disease, irrigation, or crop-related issues to management promptly.
• Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety, biosecurity, and company policies at all times.

Required to work for a minimum of 30 hours per week, and you will be paid between $27 to $40 per hour.

• Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience or Relevant Level 7 qualification in Management / Agriculture / Horticulture.
• Ability to supervise and lead seasonal or contract workers.
• Knowledge of fruit quality standards, irrigation, and pest/disease management.
• Strong communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.
• Physically fit and able to work outdoors in varying conditions.
• Willingness to travel within the Bay of Plenty region as needed.
