Part-Time Nursery Assistant

Hours: Part-Time (approx. 3 months, with potential to move to Full-Time)

We’re on the lookout for a passionate and hands-on Plant Nursery Assistant to join a dedicated locally owned and operated Nursery in Gore. If you love working with plants and enjoy being outdoors, this could be the perfect role for you!

About the Role

This is a part-time role initially for 3 months during our winter season (2-3 days a week), with the opportunity to progress to full-time employment – and for the right candidate, there’s also potential to step into a future management role within the nursery operations.

You’ll be supporting a wide range of nursery tasks, including:

Planting, potting, and pricking out seedlings

Sorting, labelling, and preparing plants for sale

General nursery upkeep, tidying, and creating an inviting customer experience area

Loading and unloading plants and products for customers

Assisting with the production of plants and seeds

Pruning, fertilising, weeding, and maintaining plant health

Advising customers on plant selection and basic care (if experienced)

You’ll also receive on-site training in nursery operations and get valuable hands-on experience with offsite quoting.

• A genuine passion for plants and horticulture
• Good level of physical fitness – some heavy lifting required
• A proactive and reliable work ethic
• Ability to work both independently and in a team
• Customer service experience and plant knowledge (preferred)
• Familiarity with New Zealand natives, shrubs, flaxes, and trees (a bonus!)
• Full NZ driver’s licence and own transport required.
• Applicants must be New Zealand residents or have the legal right to work in New Zealand
