We are seeking a reliable and motivated Mental Health Act Administrator to join our Mental Health Act Team at Te Whetu Tawera, a 58-bed inpatient psychiatric unit providing specialist care for adults experiencing severe mental distress.
As a valued member of the Mental Health Act administration team, you will be responsible for the accurate day-to-day processing of Mental Health Act documentation. Your primary focus will be ensuring that legislative requirements are thoroughly documented and implemented.You will work closely alongside clinical teams, clients, whanau, courts, and legal representatives, all under the strategic guidance of the Director of Area Mental Health Services.
The successful candidate will provide essential administrative support to ensure the accurate processing and implementation of the Mental Health (Compulsory Assessment and Treatment) Act 1992. Working closely with clinical teams, clients, whanau, courts, and legal representatives, the Mental Health Act Administrator will maintain meticulous records and contribute to the smooth operation of this critical service.
Key Responsibilities
Accurately process and document Mental Health Act paperwork in compliance with legislative requirementsLiaise professionally with clinical teams, patients, families, courts, and external stakeholders
Maintain high standards of confidentiality, accuracy, and organisation
Support a dynamic and multidisciplinary team within a fast-paced clinical environment
Candidate Profile
Applicants should demonstrate:
Proven organisational skills and attention to detailProficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Resilience and adaptability in a demanding healthcare setting
A positive, customer-focused approach with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Knowledge of the Mental Health Act is advantageous, though comprehensive training will be provided
