Assistant Manager (Specialised Asian Grocery)

We require two assistant managers for our grocery supermarket "MP Foods Asian Grocery" in Hastings.

Your role requires all the skills and organisation expected of a manager but you will need to lead by example and pitch in when things are busy. We are a small team and many workers are part-time so your tasks will include:

  • assisting the Manager with rostering and organising timesheet completion and checking.
  • staff support and management.
  • staff training, including reviews, goal setting and performance management.
  • ordering stock.
  • H&S planning and compliance.
  • arranging seasonal and stock specials.
  • meeting with owner and manager quarterly to review financial performance, budget and marketing.
  • researching & trialling new products.
  • wrapping, packing, stacking and displaying goods for sale.
  • moving/transporting stock from warehousing to store.
  • overseeing stock takes and inventory reviews, including pricing.
  • sales assistance (accepting payment, preparing invoices and receipts).
  • mingling with customers, answering queries and advising on product range, price, delivery, product use and western equivalents or comparative products.
  • ensuring all following tasks are completed : cleaning carpark, loading bay, storeroom, retail area and displays, including spills and clearing away surplus packaging.
  • acting manager duties 20-25 hours per week.

3 years relevant retail experience is necessary, with 12 months at management level. Must have a working knowledge (or willingness to learn) of a vast range of Indian/Asian products & ingredients, their common Western alternative names, their uses in international cuisine, or experience cooking with our products is essential to the role.

> a full clean NZ drivers licence or ability to get one within 1 month (to drive work van for deliveries and stock management between warehousing and supermarket.

We guarantee a minimum of 30 and a maximum of 40 hours per week rostered over 6 days including Saturdays and Sundays between the hours of 8.30am and 9pm. We guarantee at least one weekday off per week. As an ethnic food supplier we also operate during some NZ public holidays so you will need to be available to work at these times.
