Motel Operations Supervisor / Relief Duty Manager
We are looking for a reliable and hands-on Motel Operations Supervisor / Relief Duty Manager to join a growing motel-style accommodation business.
The property is expanding from 21 rooms to 42 rooms, and the day-to-day operation will require an additional person to help maintain service standards, room readiness, housekeeping flow and general property presentation.
This is a varied operational role. It includes one day per week covering reception / duty manager duties, and other days focused on room checks, housekeeping coordination, small laundry tasks, light maintenance and outdoor property upkeep.
The role would suit someone who is practical, organised, detail-focused and comfortable working across different areas of a motel operation.
Key Responsibilities
Reception / Duty Manager Cover- Cover reception and duty manager duties one day per week
-Handle basic guest requests and day-to-day operational matters
- Maintain a professional and welcoming front desk presence
- Check rooms after guest departure and before cleaning begins
- Identify room condition, missing items, damage, maintenance issues or special cleaning requirements
- Coordinate the daily housekeeping flow and support cleaners with clear priorities
- Remove small laundry items such as pillowcases, face towels, hand towels and bath mats
- Work with the wider team to maintain consistent room standards
- Assist with light laundry tasks during the day
- Report and handle minor maintenance issues where appropriate
- Assist with lawns, garden tidying and general outdoor presentation
- Help keep the property clean, organised and well presented for guests
- Minimum expected hours: around 25 hours per week during quieter periods
- During busier periods, hours may increase to around 30–35 hours per week
- One shift per week will usually be a longer reception / duty manager shift
- Other shifts are generally daytime operational shifts, often around 9am to 2–3pm, depending on occupancy and workload
- Pay rate: starting from $25 per hour, with a total pay package equivalent to approximately $27 per hour once holiday entitlements are taken into account, in accordance with NZ employment law.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who is:
- Reliable, honest and punctual
- Comfortable dealing with guests in a professional manner
- Well organised and able to prioritise daily tasks
- Able to coordinate cleaners respectfully and clearly
- Comfortable with light physical work, including room checks, laundry and outdoor tasks
- Able to work independently and as part of a small team
- Flexible with hours during busy periods
Previous experience in motel, hotel, housekeeping, reception, property maintenance or similar operational work would be an advantage.
About the Role
This is not a reception-only or housekeeping-only position. It is a practical motel operations role covering several parts of the daily workflow.
The main purpose of the position is to help ensure that rooms are checked, cleaned, prepared and maintained to a consistent standard as the property grows in size.
