Central Region Based | Permanent Part time | 4 - 20 hours per weekMultiple part time roles availableShape a new national Community Referred Radiology model and improve access to imaging across AotearoaWork at the interface of Primary Care and Radiology, influencing pathways, referral quality and patient outcomesHealth New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is the country's largest employer, delivering universal public healthcare to 5 million New Zealanders.We provide essential hospital, specialist, and community health services across 80+ locations — from large urban centres to rural towns and remote communities.Our goal is to improve health outcomes for all New Zealanders by delivering equitable, accessible and innovative care.About the RolesAs a Primary Care Radiology Liaison (PCRL), you will operate at the critical interface between Primary Care and Radiology Services, working at district and/or multi-district level within the Central Region CRR Hub.You will provide clinical leadership, triage expertise, and relationship-based system improvement, ensuring the effective implementation of national community referral criteria and the sustainable delivery of CRR services within public health constraints.These are hands-on, high-impact roles combining clinical judgement, service optimisation, education, audit, and quality improvement.

You will support referrers and radiology teams, triage and prioritise referrals, lead quality assurance activities, and contribute to education across both sectors.About the Team/Service/ Location You will be one of a team of part time PCRLs.
Ideally, we will have a PCRL in each district who works not only in their district but remotely across the Central Region, working a minimum of 4 hours per week.About youYou are a clinically credible, systems-minded medical practitioner who is motivated by improving how care is delivered across the health system — not just for individual patients, but at population scale.
You bring strong primary care or urgent care experience and enjoy working at the intersection of clinical practice, service design and quality improvement. Comfortable operating across organisational boundaries, you are able to translate clinical insight into practical system solutions that improve access, efficiency and equity.

You build trust easily with clinicians, managers and referrers, and are confident providing clinical guidance, influencing change and supporting others through education, collaboration and shared problem-solving.Essential experience and qualifications:MBChB (or similar medical qualification) and eligibility to practise in New ZealandMinimum 5 years' experience in primary care and/or urgent care within the NZ public health systemStrong understanding of community-based care and referral pathwaysDemonstrated experience in clinical audit, quality improvement and service optimisationProven ability to build and influence relationships across clinical and non-clinical stakeholdersConfidence supporting and educating other health professionalsStrong written and verbal communication skillsHigh-level clinical judgement, problem-solving and time management skillsComfortable adopting new IT systems and digital workflowsDesirable:GP or Urgent Care FellowshipYou will also demonstrate:A practical, applied understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equity-focused healthcare deliveryA collaborative, adaptable mindset with the ability to influence change without authorityHigh professional integrity, accountability and self-awarenessWorking at Health New Zealand Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to ensuring excellent healthcare for the people of New Zealand.
