Senior Motorcycle Mechanic
Independent Motorcycles is a small, independent motorcycle workshop based in Wellington, dedicated to quality work, exceptional service, and strong teamwork. We’re looking for an experienced Motorcycle Mechanic to join our team—someone who brings expertise, professionalism, and a passion for motorcycles.
This is a full-time, permanent role (Monday to Friday), perfect for a skilled mechanic who wants to work in an environment where their craft, customer relationships, and team spirit matter—not just getting bikes in and out the door. The ideal candidate for this role will be an experienced mechanic with at least five years of hands-on experience with Japanese and modern European motorbikes.
At Independent Motorcycles, we take pride in delivering top-tier servicing, diagnostics, and repairs. We were built from the ground up by Garth, who has decades of hands-on motorcycle expertise, and knowledge of all things motorcycles.
This role is for a professional with a proven track record. Some of the tasks you will be responsible for include (but are not limited to):
- Diagnosing, servicing, and repairing motorcycles, scooters, and mopeds to a high standard.
- Problem-solving and troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues.
- Handling major component replacements (steering head bearings, fork seals, wheel bearings, etc.).
- Maintaining accurate job records and ensuring work is completed efficiently.
- Interacting with customers, discussing work required, and occasionally helping with bookings and invoicing.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience working on Japanese & modern European motorcycles.
- A current, full motorcycle licence.
- Be calm, professional, and a team player—we work together to get the job done.
- Be organised and detail-oriented—we take pride in our work.
If you have a Level 4 Certificate in Motorcycle Engineering (or similar) or WOF Inspector authority, then these qualifications would also be highly regarded.
In return, we will provide you with:
- A role where your skills and experience are genuinely valued.
- A tight-knit, independent workshop where teamwork and respect matter.
- The chance to be part of a growing business with input into how we work.
- A central Wellington-based job with no weekend work.
If you think that you would be great for this position, please apply to people@independentmotorcycles.co.nz in the strictest of confidence. A detailed position description is available on request.
Applications are open until 5 June 2025, however, please don't delay in applying; applications will be reviewed as they are received, and the recruitment period may close earlier if a suitable candidate is appointed. We look forward to receiving your application.
