Full time, 40 hours per weekTechnical role, will suit a Medical Laboratory Technician (Mortuary), a Trainee in Mortuary Technology or a health care worker with appropriate experienceBased at Waikato Hospital Mortuary About the RoleThis is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic individual with the right skills, experience and aptitude to work in our busy hospital mortuary providing care for deceased and technical support for pathologists, technicians, visitors and external agencies for post mortem procedures.

As part of the team you will also be responsible for administration of records and documentation along with care and maintenance of the facility, equipment and supplies. You will be expected to support the tissue return service for patients and to support whānau / family of tūpāpaku / deceased persons.
Click here to view the position description. About the Team/Service/ LocationThe mortuary facility at Waikato Hospital is a Level 2, IANZ-accredited mortuary located in Hamilton, New Zealand. It provides body storage and a coronial post mortem service to the Waikato region and beyond.Reporting to the Department Manager Anatomical Pathology and Mortuary you will work with an experienced team of mortuary technicians and pathologists.

This is a permanent role with an expectation to participate in the out of hours on call roster as skills and experience allow. About youSkills and experience you’ll need to be considered for the role:Previous work experience in a mortuary, healthcare, laboratory science or funeral services will be an advantagePreference will be given to candidates who are eligible for registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand as a Medical Laboratory Technician (Mortuary)Training provided for candidates working toward registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New ZealandA high standard of written and verbal communication skillsOrganised and pays attention to detailResilience working in a challenging environment and be able to work calmly and professionally when caring for tūpāpaku/ deceased personsMust have a good level of physical fitnessCompetent in Microsoft Office with an ability to learn other computer applicationsQuick learner, able to prioritise work activities and work well in a team environmentUnderstanding of and commitment to quality improvement principlesAwareness of the importance of applying Tikanga Best Practice and an understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi / The Treaty of Waitangi as it pertains to Māori healthAbility to provide caring and empathetic interactions with whānau / family and other members of the publicAble to work collaboratively with health care staff and external agencies Working at Health New ZealandHealth New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to ensuring excellent healthcare for the people of New Zealand.
