This is a farm management role on a diverse and progressive property, offering genuine scope to apply your experience and make a real impact. You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day coordination of stock work, including planning and overseeing mustering, animal health programmes, and general station duties.You’ll work closely with other shepherds and staff, providing hands-on leadership and guidance to ensure operations are safe, efficient, and well-organised.
The role offers excellent variety — from sheep and cattle work to involvement in breeding programmes, pasture management, breaking in new pasture land, and environmental care. You’ll contribute to both the strategic and practical sides of the business, helping to drive performance while maintaining high standards of animal welfare, farm infrastructure, and sustainability.

THE FARM
Kaingaroa Station is one of Rekohu (Chatham Islands)’ larger farming operations, located in the northeast of the island, approximately one hour from the main centre of Waitangi. The station spans over 4,000 hectares and runs a Hereford cattle herd alongside a Romney-based ewe flock.
The wider operation also includes biodiversity, nursery, and carbon projects that work closely with the farm team.Kaingaroa offers a fantastic lifestyle for individuals or families who value connection to nature, a strong community, and plenty of space to thrive.
YOU WILL HAVE- Proven farm management experience with strong leadership capability
- Excellent stockmanship and a solid work ethic across farm maintenance
- Ability to contribute to budgets, monitor performance, and adapt as needed
- Confidence dealing with the public in a fair and professional manner
- Sound knowledge of health and safety requirements and reporting
- Ideally, 3–4 working dogs
- Strong organisational skills; reliable, self-motivated, and practical
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work well within a team
- Confidence using farm technology and maintaining accurate records (or a willingness to learn)
- A commitment to caring for farm assets and infrastructure
- A current full driver licence
- The abiliity to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test
